A marriage of invigorating kito yuzu and fruity extra virgin olive oil (EVOO)—this is the simplest description of this superbly refreshing EVOO. Ogon no Mura, the producer of this oil, is a true yuzu citrus expert—they grow the citrus, develop and manufacture yuzu items, and market them from the heart of yuzu production, the Kito district of Tokushima Prefecture. They use locally grown, Geographical Indication (GI)-granted Kito yuzu, which is known to be the birthplace of yuzu trees grown across Japan. They press oil from the kito yuzu within 24 hours after harvesting, which ensures that it retains its fresh aroma and flavor. Then the kito yuzu oil is blended with mild and smooth Taggiasca EVOO from Liguria, Italy. With a refreshing yuzu citrus aroma and a hint of fruitiness, Kito Yuzu Extra Virgin Olive Oil is perfect finishing oil, complementing salads, bread, grilled dishes, and even desserts! No chemical pesticides or fertilizers are used for growing the yuzu, and this oil is additive-free.

Just like other EVOOs, you can drizzle it over a salad, add it to a salad dressing, dip bread into it, or use it as a finishing sauce to dishes like carpaccio, bruschetta, grilled seafood, soups, pizza, and pasta. If you serve it on the side of your cheese plate or charcuterie, you can enjoy a variety of flavors with assorted pairings. Its fresh yuzu flavor is good with Japanese cuisine as well—try it with sashimi and tofu dishes! Also, it is wonderful with creamy desserts—enjoy it by drizzling it over ice cream, cheesecake, or yogurt.

Subtle but interesting flavor

It's pretty subtle. Adding a small amount to a true sweet potato (the white flesh) was great. The hint of yuzu added complexity to the starchiness of the potato, not to mention a beautiful creaminess. A little bit of this product was added to plain stir fry broccoli and cauliflower and the yuzu element was totally lost. Perhaps too much heat broke it down. This might be better in dressings or as finishing oil.
