Green shiso (perilla), also called aojiso and oba, is a Japanese herb that has a basil-like refreshing aroma and flavor. Hikari Foods’ Organic Green Shiso Dressing features organic green shiso harvested in Tokushima Prefecture, along with quality soy sauce and vinegar. The soy sauce they use is made from domestically-grown, non-GMO, organic soybeans, and is aged for over a year. The vinegar is also a masterful blend of organic apple and rice vinegars. These premium ingredients create the base of this oil-free dressing. The complexity of the umami-rich base is further enhanced by katsuobushi (bonito flakes) and domestically grown plum and lemon. With no artificial flavors added, this authentic Japanese dressing exhibits a genuine green shiso flavor, which goes well with fish, chicken, and beef as well as vegetable dishes like salads and daikon oroshi (grated daikon radish). It is also great for seasoning deep fried dishes like tempura and karaage. From a nutritional standpoint, green shiso leaves contain a large amount of calcium, iron and vitamin A, as well as antioxidants and anti-inflammatory and allergy-fighting agents. No MSG, artificial flavors, preservatives or artificial seasonings are used. Organic, healthful, tasty, and versatile—you’ll want to use this refreshing dressing on everything once you have it in your pantry.

This dressing boasts refreshing umami that complements a variety of dishes, from salad to grilled, stir-fried, and deep-fried dishes. You can pour it over Caprese, hiyayakko (cold tofu appetizer), grilled fish, and grilled meat for a crisp kick and savory flavor. It’s also great when used to marinate chicken and fish. Since it’s an oil-free dressing, it neutralizes the oiliness of fried chicken and tempura while enhancing their appetizing taste. Also, you can enjoy an uplifting aroma by adding it to simmered dishes and soups right at the end as a final touch.

Soy Sauce (Water, Soybean, Wheat, Salt), Apple Vinegar, Rice Vinegar, Sugar, Lemon, Salt, Perilla, Fermented Rice Seasoning, Plum Paste, Seaweed, Dried Bonito.

Refreshing

Really good on a salad with cucumbers and carrots, a little odd on the avocado though. I tried jicama and was pleasantly surprised on how well they were together, almost an elegant taste.

Strong Taste

It’s ok if you like the taste of vinegar. Only a few drops required, and it depends on the salad.
