Ponzu sauce is commonly soy sauce based, but Shio Ponzu - White Ponzu is completely soy sauce free. Instead, it features umami-rich dashi broth, pleasing Daidai orange citrus, and salt along with crunchy Egoma (Perilla frutescens) seeds. O-san, an egoma-specialty food item manufacturer in Shimane Prefecture, developed this delicious and healthy ponzu featuring egoma seeds, that contain an abundance of α-linolenic acid, eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), all of which are omega-3 fatty acids. The umami comes from an exquisite blend of kombu kelp, bonito flakes, shiitake mushrooms, and the premium fish, Nodoguro (Blackthroat Seaperch). The light-colored ponzu adds a refreshing kick to a dish and enhances its savoriness at the same time. No preservatives or artificial flavorings are used.

This soy sauce-free, umami-rich, citrusy ponzu with crunchy Egoma seeds, can be used just like any oil-free salad dressing. Coming from Daidai orange citrus, its distinct sourness stands out, and this makes it particularly great with robust flavored dishes, such as Japanese traditional "katsuo no tataki” (seared bonito) or any kind of meat dish. You can also enjoy this exquisite ponzu by adding it to stir-fried dishes, drizzling it over grilled dishes, or even dressing pasta. Because it has a pale appearance, you can maximize the colors of other ingredients as well.

Water, Mirin, Citrus Daidai Juice, Alcohol(Retain Freshness), Salt, Yeast Extract, Kelp, Dried Shaved Bonito, Perilla, Dried Shiitake Mushroom, Black Throat Powder.

We love ponzu but due to soy allergy in our child, we've had to give that up. We were skeptical of this at first but we're sold. Collectively we like it more than regular ponzu. It's been great with pork shabu as a dipping sauce, works wonderfully as a salad dressing, and also great for a light broth for somen or chazuke. Super versatile and really lovely and refreshing.
