Composed of sushi rice, your choice of toppings, and nori seaweed, temaki (hand roll) sushi is a staple home party dish in Japan, and it’s now a popular addition to restaurant menus in the U.S. To throw a temaki party isn’t really difficult, but you may not know that the quality of nori greatly affects your temaki experience. Crisp when dry and melting-soft in your mouth, Nagai Nori’s Roasted Nori Seaweed for Hand Roll Sushi is a half-sized version of their high-grade nori brand, Nori Zen, and is perfect for temaki. It’s made with seaweed harvested in the Ariake Sea, known for its quality nori production, roasted in a far infra-red machine, and cut into temaki-sized pieces. They use only the early harvest seaweed for its soft, melting texture. Thanks to this aromatic, flavorful, and pre-cut nori, you can skip a preparation step and also upgrade the flavor of your temaki sushi at the same time. Contained in a resealable bag, you don’t have to worry about preventing moisture absorption.

This premium nori is designed to be enjoyed for temaki (hand roll) sushi, so you can just open the bag, serve the nori pieces along with sushi rice and your choice of toppings, and you’re ready to throw a temaki sushi party. Sashimi quality tuna, salmon, grilled eel, ume plum paste, cucumber, natto, and tamagoyaki omelet are some of the popular toppings, but spam, sausage, and grilled beef are also great with the aroma of this premium nori seaweed. It can be used for wrapping onigiri rice balls as well. To make a unique nori tempura—cut the nori into half, apply tempura batter to one side of the nori, and deep fry it. You can also experiment with this recipe by wrapping cheese, sausage, chicken, or asparagus with nori, coating everything with tempura batter, and deep-frying it. The dish goes very well with alcoholic drinks like sake, beer, and shochu.
