This nutritious, aromatic, and versatile powder is made from whole mikan (a mandarin orange-like Japanese citrus) grown in the mild climate in Ehime Prefecture. The juicy mikan and its zesty rind are dried at a low temperature to preserve their nutrients, flavors, and aromas, before being ground into a fine powder. The rinds of citruses in the mandarin orange groups are known to be particularly nutritious as they are employed in traditional Chinese herbal medicine. Powdered Whole Mikan is rich in healthful nutritious components and antioxidants, including β-cryptoxanthin, nobiletin, hesperidin, vitamin C, and dietary fiber, so you can enjoy the full benefits of the citrus just by adding it to whatever you cook. Since the powder’s aroma and flavor are delicate, it’s best matched with simple dishes. For example, add it when cooking rice or making bread or just sprinkle it over yogurt or ice cream and you can enjoy its lovely color as well. No additives, food colorings, or flavorings are used to make this powder.

The powder is full of nutritional value, and you can enjoy its benefits just by adding it to whatever you cook. If you’d like to appreciate its refreshing, delicate aroma and flavor, it’s best used with simple or lightly-flavored dishes. For example, add it when cooking rice, and you’ll have fluffy rice with a gentle citrus aroma and subtle orange color. An interesting variation is mikan sushi rice—just add the powder to sushi rice. Also, you can add it to bread dough before baking. If you make cakes or muffins, its fruity flavor can be masked by sweet or buttery batters, so make sure to add extra mikan powder to the mix. If you sprinkle the powder over yogurt or ice cream, you can enjoy its lovely color as well. You can add it into smoothies, too. Also recommended is mixing the powder with honey to make an original sweet sauce, which can be drizzled over your favorite desserts.

Mild & Not Tangy Flavour

It is interesting and similar to other citrus powders in form, but it is mild and not overly tangy. I use it in spicy dishes as well as with millet for a flavour boost. It is quite expensive, so I might not repurchase, but it was worth trying out once.
